Naomi
Hi everyone! My name is Naomi Salazar, and I am passionate about teaching. I have always been interested in human behavior, personality and relationships. I read a lot of books about child development, that made me understand that adults in the world have a big impact on kids’ learning and wellbeing.
I studied Psychology at the University of Ottawa, where I obtained my bachelor’s degree. After that, I decided to go into teaching to have more of a direct impact on children’s day-to-day lives. After completing my second degree (Education) at uOttawa, I was finally able to enter the teaching world. I did short-term and long-term substituting, ranging from kindergarten all the way to grade 6.
Between those degrees, I worked in a few daycares, thinking it would be a good way to gain experience working with children. As a teacher, I learned how to manage large groups of kids, planning lessons and learning activities, administering evaluations and reviewing them, as well as establishing relationships with parents.

Ilelemwanta
My name is Ilelemwanta and I enjoy teaching and learning languages, throughout the years I’ve discovered that there are two important principles that help you on your journey. The first is being able to make complicated concepts simple. For example, I initially found German declension really difficult, until I found the patterns that made the system work. While teaching Spanish I noticed that a lot of people find the verbs hard to learn, but you can reduce the hundreds of verb forms to a dozen or so rules to make the verbs easier to master. As a tutor, I hope to help my students find patterns in English and French that help them master the language.
The second important principle is having fun. It seems pretty cliché, but it’s how everyone learned their native language. We didn’t learn to speak English by studying grammar books and dictionaries in kindergarten. We learned it by watching fun TV shows, and by speaking to the people we cared about (and we maintain our language proficiency by doing the same things!). Even when it came to learning grammar, teachers tried to find fun ways to explain “boring” concepts. In my lessons, I want to motivate my students to treat their new language like their old one: a necessary part of their life that exposes them to great experiences.
Hopefully, with these two principles in mind, your language classes, be they ESL or French, will be your favourite part of the day.

As an experienced tutor, I find fulfillment in teaching because it allows me to witness the growth of knowledge and passion in my students. My approach is to simplify complex concepts, making learning more accessible and enjoyable. Hasan
My name is Hasan and I graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and a GPA of 3.97. I did this with relative ease by studying efficiently. I can teach you to do the same, leaving you free time to do the things that you find meaningful.
I love to share my understanding of concepts and methods of studying. I’ve been tutoring my peers since Grade 5, when I was elected to teach some of my peers in Math class. In university, I provided classmates with flashcards for Science and Psychology exams, the same cards which helped me consistently achieve a grade of at least 90% in our exams. I’ve mentored high school students and younger undergraduates regarding their involvement in University academics. I now happily tutor with Bookish Tutors for any student who needs help.
